Not an Award a Town Wants to Win
Bakersfield had the worst level of fine-particle pollution in the nation last year — a toxic mix of soot, diesel exhaust, chemicals, metals and aerosols that contribute to heart attacks, strokes and lung disease, according to the American Lung Association’s annual State of the Air report. California, in general, rated poorly. Now, more than ever, we must make the air healthy to breathe in the one place we can control - in our homes. Not with a room-only air cleaning unit (outside of prison few of us live in a closed room) but with a whole home air cleaning unit that can take those fine particles out of the air.
These RSPs go deep into the lungs, exacerbating asthma and other respiratory conditions.
Who is most vulnerable? Young children. Smokers or those who live with someone who does. Older folks as they have a much-reduced lung capacity. Those who work at home. As homes get "greener" - more insulated, they are better sealed to reduce energy costs. The down side is that they also keep more polluted air inside.
"The pollution that we have been breathing is more dangerous than we had thought before," said Janice Nolen, a vice president with the American Lung Association. "We have had more unhealthy air for a longer time than we had appreciated. But overall, we have seen some declines."
Since the newer technology is affordable, continuously high-performing, requires less than 10 minutes a year of maintenance (1 - 2 filter changes).... this is the vital change to make at home.
