The Chamber Challenge!

Hey guys!

I just wanted to share something that I posted on my asthma blog yesterday with you guys, see if anybody wants to get in on the 'challenge'.

Okay, I’m the last one to talk.

I’ve taken my Ventolin twice today (pre-exercise and to fight this persisting flare!) and haven’t used my AeroChamber. I use my Pocket Chamber with my FloVent, but my Ventolin? Not unless I’m really bad.
But, as I’ve heard several times over the internet and in my first aid class (in which the instructor passed around my AeroChamber that I pulled out of my backpack) chambers can make medicine work 175% better.

So, here’s a challenge for you, and one I’m embarking on as well–for one week, consistently use your AeroChamber. Every dose from a puffer, use the AeroChamber.

I think I have pretty good inhaler technique, and you probably do, too. But, is it good enough? Are your lungs getting all the medicine they need?

Try it out, take a breath, and send me some comments–what do you think?

What do you think of the idea?

Leave me a comment here or on my blog!  :)

    Hi Kerri,

Yep, I do use an Aerochamber, but only when I haven't got the inclination to neb extra! I have one by my bed and sometimes 5 puffs plus a few more will do it.

Most GPs encourage the use of spacers-better timing of the firing and inhalation. I don't carry one around with me as I use a neb all the time and if I don't need a neb I can generally cope on multiple ordinary puffs.

The paramedics in the UK will likely give you multiple puffs with a spacer rather than a neb if you haven't had a really bad attack-does that figure?

my doctor told me to use my spacer with all my inhalers..i do, but i really can't tell much difference with or without the spacer- i have severe asthma and 18 triggers...i neb twice a day as a maintanance along with all the other meds but still need my inhaler everyday...i don't have one of the small ones you talk about and when i'm at home(which is most of the time) i do use my spacer. when i'm having a bad attack i neb it's more effective  for me, then i call my doc.,
